My research

My research in areas of Biomedical Ontologies, Data Integration, Bioinformatics and High-Throughput Computing has resulted in over 50 publications that have been cited over 200 times till date with an average of 23.22 cites per year. I have completed PhD in Computer Science from La Trobe University in April 2008. My thesis entitled: “Structured Vocabulary for Proteins: Protein Ontology Project” received Research Thesis Merit Citation Award for 2008. Over the last 7 years, I have been leading the development of Protein Ontology and I am one of the leading researchers in the world on Biomedical Ontologies. Protein Ontology has been adopted as a standard and is included in Ontology Repository of National Center for Biomedical Ontology at National Institute of Health, USA along with Gene Ontology and other major Biomedical Ontologies. My Paper (Protein Ontology Project: 2006 Updates) is the most downloaded paper of all-time for Curtin University with over 14000 downloads.

A bit about me

I am working as a a Systems Engineer with Curtin IT Services. I am responsible for assisting with High Data-Throughput Research Applications at Curtin University. I am also an Adjunct Research Fellow with School of Biomedical Sciences. I like managing diverse kind of large data sets that I come across every day. I also help others to integrate and manage their data better. Normally I am involved in helping others run their data in a High Performance or Cloud Computing environment. I am an academic by training and now apart from doing my own research, I am helping in setting up better computing infrastructure for research at Curtin. Also due to my background I am also interested in Bioinformatics and Semantic Web. In this blog I will cover things I did in past or what I am currently doing. This blog is a summary of my day to day activities. More detailed blogs about Cloud Computing and Big Data are at my Biological Data Mapping blog.
